Latest MacBook Pro is the first Apple laptop without Consumer Reports recommendation

Apple’s latest batch of MacBooks took yet another hit. Reactions and opinions varied from “touch screen for emojis” regarding the Touch Bar to being called “not good enough” by Forbes.

Now some more criticism comes from Consumer Reports who opted not to recommend the flagship devices. In its report it praises performance and display quality but also finds massive issue with battery life. This comes as a big surprise considering that Apple tends to underpromise the battery life of their devices.

Consumer Reports tested all three devices. The 13” MacBook Pro with Touch Bar ran for 16 hours at the first trial but at the third trial the battery lasted only 3.75 hours. The non-Touch Bar 13” device ranged from 19.5 hours to 4.5 hours and the 15-inch MacBook Pro went from 18.5 to 8 hours.

Since battery life is an important feature for a mobile device, Consumer Reports gives it a significant portion in their overall score. Apparently it couldn’t reach needed levels for “Recommended” sticker which is a first for MacBook devices.
